Rent a Campervan in Edinburgh – FifePosted on: May 27, 2015
This week we head up the east coast after we rent a campervan in Edinburgh and travel just over the Forth Road Bridge, than an hour’s drive to Fife. Located between the Firth of Tay and the Firth of Forth, Fife has it all- stunning beaches, fascinating history, castles galore, charming villages and beautiful countryside- not to mention it is the home of golf- reason enough for some to explore this beautiful part of Scotland.
Our first stop after we rent a campervan in Edinburgh is in Cupar for the Saturday farmers’ market. One of the finest markets in Scotland, this popular attraction is one-stop shopping for all the best local fare, from smoked fish to fine wines to cheese and fresh produce. We’ll load up with breakfast and lunch fixings, plus a little something to celebrate with later- when you rent a campervan in Edinburgh, you can prepare some meals in self contained comfort, and save money for splurging in the evenings.
Next stop is St. Andrews, the jewel in Fife’s crown. If golf is your thing, then it’s a no brainer- book a tee time at the Home of Golf online or at the clubhouse-the 9-hole course doesn’t require reservations. If golf is not your thing, or perhaps not everyone wants to indulge, there is so much else to see in the medieval city of St. Andrews- castles, museums and a vibrant shopping and pub district filled with lively university students.
Rent a Campervan in Edinburgh & visit Fife’s countryside
After time in the city, let’s head out into the beautiful Fife countryside- when you choose to rent a campervan in Edinburgh, the best scenery is just a short drive away. A visit to the charming fishing villages of the East Neuk area such as Pittenweem, Crail and Anstruther is like going back in time, with colourful cottages and unexpected art galleries- not to mention the freshest fish and chips you can find. There are over two dozen castles in Fife, so we’ll look for signs directing us as we explore the countryside- Kellie Castle and gardens, for example, is easy to find and worth a visit any time of year.
And speaking of castles, there is a spectacular one in Falkland, where we wind up our tour of Fife. As a setting in the television series Outlander, this ancient and picturesque village at the foot of the Lomond Hills will charm and delight.
So why not rent a campervan in Edinburgh for a weekend getaway for two or the whole family? Fife is so close, but it will seem like a grand holiday!
