This week in Part 2, we look at more fantastic places made famous by Outlander that are ripe for exploring in a campervan hire, starting with Urquhart Castle, one of the most popular in Scotland. It was partially destroyed in the late 1600s to keep it from being used by the Jacobites, and from its tower you’ll get a bird’s eye view of Loch Ness- look for the ‘Water Horse,’ which entrances Claire while she is washing up at the loch one day.
Strathpeffer in Sutherland is the home of Outlander’s Clan MacKenzie, a lovely Victorian spa village, and nearby Beauly, the fictional home of Clan Fraser, is where Claire meets the seer.
Doune Castle near Stirling is the stand in for Castle Leoch in Outlander, with its striking 100-feet high gatehouse and one of the best preserved halls in Scotland. You might also recognize Doune from Game of Thrones, the BBC production of Ivanhoe and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
