Touring Scotland’s Winter Wonderland in a campervan rental

Posted on: January 3, 2017
campervan rental

Scotland is beautiful any time of the year, so if you fancy something different this winter, why not plan a campervan rental break? From vibrant festivals to top rate ski resorts, there is lots to do and explore in Scotland in winter in a campervan rental!

Scotland’s five ski resorts offer excellent powder, for a lot less than other European resorts. Glenshee Ski Centre is the largest, with 22 lifts and 36 runs, so whether you are a complete novice or a pro, you’ll find one to thrill.

Cairngorm, between Perth and Inverness, is the next largest, and features the UK’s highest restaurant and funicular railway.

Lecht, in the east Cairngorms, has a magic carpet lift and easier runs for beginners and kids- a great choice for families. To the west near Fort William, GlencoeMountain and Nevis Range (the highest in the UK) offer excellent skiing and snowboarding. Take the UK’s only mountain gondola up Nevis and enjoy the breath taking views. All these resorts feature cosy cafes, hire shops and ski schools, so you don’t even need to bring gear. Some even offer free sledges to play with, so us non-skiers can simply enjoy a ride up the mountain and feel like a kid again while whooshing down the bunny slope. Be sure to check Traffic Scotland to make sure your route is open, but most roads are generally fine throughout the season, with gritters out in force if things look like they might get icy – so please be carefull how you drive your campervan rental.

You can catch Winter Festivals all over Scotland throughout November and December, where lively local culture, music, parades and festive lights make Christmas even more special. Towns and villages sparkle with holiday cheer (and you can find loads of Christmas gift ideas at the many markets and fine shops!) The Fort William Mountain Festival kicks off February 15-19, with activities and events celebrating the Outdoor Capital of the UK. Climbing, biking, running- whatever your sport, you’ll find something to get your adrenaline pumping!

Northern Lights in a campervan rental

Winter is also the time to catch the Northern Lights in Scotland. Just step out of your campervan rental and look up- you just might witness one of the most enchanting sights in the world as the sky lights up in greens and purples and rainbow-coloured ribbons dance across the sky. Truly unforgettable!

No matter where you choose to experience the magical Scottish winter, there are welcoming touring parks with all the amenities nearby to keep you cosy, warm and comfy in your self contained luxury campervan rental from Roseisle.
